A new Kroger Marketplace is coming to the southeast corner of Laud Howell Parkway and North Custer Road in McKinney.
The new store is expected to open in 2027 as part of a retail development called Custer Frontier Marketplace. Officials held a groundbreaking ceremony for the project Feb. 27. John Votava, corporate affairs director for Kroger, said the new store will generate between 200 and 250 new jobs within the community.
“We’re so excited to share the new store and be part of the Custer Frontier Marketplace development,” he said. “This is going to be a great opportunity to serve the communities of McKinney, Celina and Prosper as well.”
The new store will span 99,000 square feet and will serve as the development’s anchor store. Custer Frontier Marketplace is expected to include more than 45,000 square feet of additional retail space, according to Weitzman’s website.
“We’re going to bring 50,000 [square feet of retail and six pads to join the great Kroger marketplace when we open it in the spring,” said David Palmer, executive vice president with Weitzman. “We look forward so much to continue to work with Kroger in bringing a great development to this expanding area.”
Kroger currently operates 207 stores in Texas and plans are underway to open more in North Texas. Three new stores are already under construction in Little Elm, Anna, and Sendera Ranch, a neighborhood located in north Fort Worth. Kroger officials are planning to break ground in March on another store in Fate, Texas.
